Letter to the DNC

Dear Democratic National Committee,

I'm wondering what to expect in Michigan this year.  Since the DNC has made the decision to render our primary worthless, is there a plan in place to provide another opportunity for Michigan's Democrats to choose our presidential nominee?

I will certainly have a hard time supporting any Democrats in the general election if Michigan is completely disenfranchised from the Democratic primary.

I understand that the DNC is well within its rights to follow whatever rules it wishes in selecting its candidates, and I understand that there must be some order to the primary process.  But I strongly believe in the old civil rights maxim "One person, one vote." If the DNC does not believe that all the people in the nation should be involved in selecting their national leaders, then we appear to disagree on a point so fundamental to democratic rule that I find it very hard to support the party. If the DNC believes that strict enforcement of primary rules is more important than the votes of Michigan's 6 million registered voters, then our priorities seem to be in such stark contrast that I cannot in good conscience continue to consider myself a Democrat. If Michigan's Democrats and the national leadership are unable to come to some kind of a compromise to ensure that all eligible voters have their say in the next election, I do not see how I can trust these same national leaders to make the compromises which are necessary to govern.

I am sorry to write a message like this so late in the process, but I had assumed that Michigan's Democrats and the DNC were working on some kind of deal to allow the people of Michigan to vote. But as we draw closer to our gutted primary, I'm starting to think that maybe that's not the case.

Thank you for your response,

-----Scott.
